Used cars Export from Singapore is expected to hit over 120,000 units in 2006

According to recent statistics, Singapore is expected to export out an estimated 120,000 second-hand cars in the year 2006. This will make Singapore the second-largest previously-owned car exporter in the world, after Japan.

According to the some of the leading importers from Mauritius and African regions of these Singapore used cars, these cars are better quality, well kept being expensive due to local taxes such as certificate of entitlement called COE and at least 20% cheaper than their Japanese counterparts.

The number of used cars exported from Singapore has been rising each year. One of the reasons is that more Singaporean cars are being deregistered or scrapped now than in the previous years.

In 2004, a record of 114,870 cars were deregistered and most of them were exported to overseas market such as various African right hand drive countries and Caribbean islands such as Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago etc. In 2005 the figure was 117,461 units of used cars were deregistered most of which were exported.

Presently there are over 150 used car dealers in Singapore however only a handful of them are in exporting business. The used car dealers list can be found at Singapore automobile association website www.aas.com.sg
